November 17, 2009

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– The UN office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs (OCHA) warned that hundreds of Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem are threatened with displacement because of Israeli intentions to demolish their homes at the pretext of unlicensed construction.

A report issued by OCHA revealed that the Israeli municipal council in the holy city issued 17 demolition orders against Palestinian homes in Silwan neighborhood.

The report said that 90 Palestinian homes received demolition orders in recent years, which puts them at risk of displacement.

It added that since the beginning of 2009, Israel removed 75 Palestinian structures in east Jerusalem which led to the displacement of 269 Palestinians including 131 children.

“Israel” approves construction of 900 settlement units in eastern Jerusalem

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– Different Hebrew media sources reported Wednesday that the Israeli government approved the building of 900 settlement units in the eastern part of occupied Jerusalem.

They said that the committee for planning and construction of the Israeli interior ministry sanctioned the building of these units in Gilo settlement.

According to the Israeli Haaretz newspaper, these units are the first phase of a broader and comprehensive plan aimed at expanding the settlement, there are still more than 4,000 settlement units in Gilo pending the final approval.

In another context, a large number of Israeli troops stormed at dawn Wednesday Palestinian homes in the town of Idna and Al-Aroub refugee camp in Al-Khalil in the West Bank, and assaulted a young man at Al-Hawwar checkpoint, north of the city.

Palestinian eyewitnesses told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that Israeli troops invaded Idna and imposed a curfew in the vicinity of the house of a citizen called Tayseer Abu Juhaisha and damaged its furniture, adding that they stayed several hours inside the house before withdrawing.

Other Israeli troops broke into and ransacked the house of a Palestinian citizen from the family of Abu Khairan in Al-Aroub camp for the third consecutive time in less than a week, and detained the family members inside a room.

It was also reported that a 24-year-old young man called Abdelrahman Al-Abd was moderately wounded when he was attacked by Israeli troops at Al-Hawwar checkpoint.

Medical sources said that the young man sustained different bruises in his body and was transferred to Al-Khalil hospital.

In another incident, Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian citizens on the Shalala street in the old city in Al-Khalil for the second time in a week without any reported injuries.

For its part, the Hebrew radio alleged that a Palestinian homemade rocket landed Wednesday morning in Sha’ar Hanegev area in western Negev without inflicting casualties.

No Palestinian party claimed responsibility for the attack.

IOA demolishes two Palestinian homes in J’lem without prior notice

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) demolished two Palestinian homes on Tuesday in Al-Buq’ah neighborhood in Beit Hanina and Wadi Qadoum neighborhood in Ras Al-Amoud in occupied Jerusalem without prior notice.

Homeowners Atiya Qara’een and Nasr Al-Husseini said that the IOA did not give them time to remove furniture and clothing or anything from the houses and embarked on demolishing everything.

The brother of Qara’een reported that the demolished house was a second floor that was built in 2007 and accommodated 11 members of the family, adding that the process of demolishing caused damage to the first floor where he lives.

For his part, Jibril, the son of Husseini, said that he went along with a lawyer to the municipal court in the morning and received an order demanding him to demolish the outer wall of the house on his own, but he was surprised to see Israeli troops and bulldozers encircling the house to demolish it.

The house of Hussein was accommodating 30 persons, most of them are children and women.

In a related context, a number of Hamas lawmakers paid solidarity visits on Monday to the Palestinian citizens in the village of Roujib whose homes are threatened with demolition by the IOA.

During the visits, lawmaker Yasser Mansour said that IOA, through the demolition of homes, aims to uproot the Palestinians from their lands.

For its part, Mona Mansour stated that the world must break its silence and pay attention to thousands of Palestinian families displaced by Israel.

In a new development, the Brigades of Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa, the armed wing of the popular front for the liberation of Palestine, claimed responsibility for firing an RPG shell at an Israeli armored bulldozer that infiltrated into a garbage dumb east of Juhr Al-Deek in Gaza.

Six Israeli bulldozers and four tanks advanced 200 meters inside Gaza and embarked on leveling Palestinian lands owned by citizens in the area, eyewitnesses reported.
