Informed sources: Secret talks between the PA and Israel in Washington

[ 12/04/2010 - 02:08 PM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- An informed Palestinian source affirmed that the US administration is currently hosting secret preliminary talks between the negotiators of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Israeli officials in Washington.

Quds Net news agency quoted the source as saying that US envoy George Mitchell postponed his visit to the region last week because he devoted his time to sponsor these talks in order to explore the prospects of the next negotiation process between the two sides.

The source pointed out that these talks could lead to holding a meeting between Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu under the auspices of Barack Obama in the Egyptian Sharm El-Sheikh resort.

He expressed his belief that the American side would announce during this meeting the launch of peace negotiations between the PA and Israel based on proposals prepared by Mitchell.

The PA still claims that it refuses to engage in any kind of negotiations with Israel as long as it does not stop its settlement activities, while all indicators confirm that there are both high-level secret talks and security coordination between the two sides.
