GAZA, (PIC)-- Palestinian security apparatuses arrested a senior Egyptian officer who infiltrated into Gaza Strip to collect information on the Palestinian government and people along with other missions, Fathi Hammad, the interior minister, announced on Sunday.

He told Palestine online that the security apparatuses returned the officer to Egypt, and called on Cairo to form a joint security committee to coordinate cooperation between them rather than sending officers for espionage purposes.

The minister expressed dismay at the incident, saying that Egypt should have rather investigated how agents to Israeli occupation were infiltrating into Egyptian and Palestinian territory and to stand alongside the Palestinians rather than sending officers to collect information on resistance.

Hammad castigated Cairo for arresting Palestinians and torturing them in jail without committing any crimes against or violation of Egypt or its security.

He said that contacts with Egypt were very limited, adding that the Egyptians only contact Gaza whenever they have information regarding a security threat in Sinai and ask for coordination to solve that problem.
