GAZA, (PIC)-- MP Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the popular committee against the siege, deplored Israel for intercepting the Irish ship Rachel Corrie and forcing it to dock at Ashdod port, stressing that its piracy would not stop the intifada of ships.
Khudari added in a press release on Saturday that the anti-siege activists constitute a source of worry to Israel because they are messengers of truth to the world.
The lawmaker pointed out that Israel’s war on aid convoys is further evidence that the Gaza Strip is under tight siege, highlighting the Palestinian people’s right to a safe water passage connecting them with the outside world.
In the same context, the higher national committee for the support of prisoners held Israel fully responsible for the lives of detainees who were kidnapped from aboard Rachel Corrie ship, expressing grave concern on their lives, especially since news reports said they were maltreated.
The committee stated Saturday that Israel’s use of violence against the activists is intended for sending a message to anyone considering traveling to Gaza to break the blockade.
It appealed to the UN to issue a resolution that protects activists who travel to Gaza on humanitarian missions from Israel’s piracy.
For its part, the Hamas change and reform parliamentary bloc said that the hijacking of Rachel Corrie in international water confirms that Israel was not deterred by the international community which condemned its deadly attack on Freedom Flotilla aid convoy.
The bloc added that Israel’s persistence in attacking aid convoys sent for Gaza should entail a broader international move to curb its crimes until ending the siege and the occupation, warning that if no action was taken against Israel, the situation in the region would be always like an active volcano likely to erupt any moment.
Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the first deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council (PLC), also slammed what happened to Rachel Corrie aid ship, saying that Israel is insistent on defying the whole world which has condemned its attack on Freedom Flotilla and demanded it to end its blockade on Gaza without any conditions.
Dr. Bahar stressed the need for a firm international position able to confront Israel’s arrogance and for an Arab and Islamic decision ending the blockade on Gaza immediately.
He also hoped that the international community would not hide behind condemnation statements or evade its responsibility towards the Palestinian people and their national cause in light of the harsh conditions they are living in.
