Nablus, (PIC)-- Sheikh Hamed Al-Beitawi, the head of Palestinian scholars association, said that the war waged by Fatah's authority on West Bank mosques and religious figures did not stop, affirming that more than 1,000 mosques are without muezzins or imams.
In a statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Sunday, Sheikh Beitawi explained that the Fatah-affiliated ministry of religious affairs in the West Bank reluctantly hires some imams and staff to serve the mosques and if they do so, they appoint persons who are loyal to Fatah and do what they are told.
The head of Palestinian scholars, who is among others banned from giving religious speeches in mosques, added that the decision issued against him by Fatah's authority was political and not the first of its kind, where former minister of religious affairs Kamal Bawatneh had prevented him from preaching.
He also recalled the early days of this war on Muslim figures and mosques, saying, this ministry barred mosque preachers from talking about what was happening in Gaza during the last Israeli war and later ordered them to verbally attack Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradawi, the head of the international association of Muslim scholars.
Mosque preachers are also forced to deliver certain speeches issued by the ministry of religious affairs, that only serve the interests of Fatah's authority, the Palestinian religious figure added.
The Sheikh accused Fatah's authority of promoting moral corruption and debauchery in the Palestinian society in the West Bank through opening bars and discos, and closing Qur'an centers.
