Hamdan: Abbas's resignation will be a solution to the inter-Palestinian crisis

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Hamas representative in Lebanon Osama Hamdan stated that the resignation of de facto president Mahmoud Abbas would not be a disaster, but it would be a way out of the inter-Palestinian crisis.

In a statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Wednesday, Hamdan said that regardless of all attempts by some to defend him, Abbas and nobody else is primarily and fully responsible for the internal division and the concessions made on the Palestinian rights, so his departure from the Palestinian Authority (PA) would be welcomed by the Palestinian people.

"The negotiation process will achieve nothing, and Mahmoud Abbas is fully aware of that unless he makes concessions removing him from the Palestinian leadership rank; he also knows if he does so, the price will be detrimental not only to his name but also to everyone related to him," the Hamas official underlined.

"The dangerous thing at the present time is that the Zionists are preparing a team that could be an improved clone of the southern Lebanon's collaborators (Lahd army) headed by Salam Fayyad whom the Zionist enabled to make financial and security decisions."

"They kept him away, however, from the political decision-making on purpose in order for him not to be blamed for any coming mistakes or concessions resulting from the peace process, and to be able to say then he has found a fait accompli [when he replaces Abbas]," the official said.

As for the Palestinian security escalation against Hamas in the West Bank, Hamdan stressed that his Movement pursues a rational policy towards the violations committed against it by the PA and some thinks that the restraint that Hamas shows in the West Bank is a kind of weakness, but this patience stems from its constant hope for a reconciliation with its rivals.
