March 14 Taking Country into ‘War of Civilizations’

The “war” launched by the remains of the so-called March 14 forces against the Resistance and its arms, as part of the ongoing preparations for the March 13 ‘awaited day’, is not heading towards a close end.

The head of the caretaker government Saad Hariri, the head of the Phalange party Amin Gemayel and Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea are making use of all possible weapons to “mobilize” people to take part in Sunday’s rally, even if the “price” would be to “incite” Lebanese against each other.

Meanwhile, the new majority in Lebanon is still controlling its reactions in the face of the campaign.

While Hezbollah chose to adopt the “constructive silence,” its allies took the floor: Speaker Nabih Berri backed the Resistance-Army-People formula, the head of the National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt warned against the dangerous repercussions of the campaign while the head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun challenged them.

BERRI: ARMY-RESISTANCE-PEOPLE FORMULA REMAINS UNCHANGED

Once again, Speaker Nabih Berri criticized the campaign launched by the remains of the so-called March 14 forces against the Resistance and its arms.

In an interview with Lebanese daily As-Safir, Berri reiterated that the country's defense strategy was settled in the policy statement of the caretaker government of Saad Hariri when it stressed the army-people-resistance formula.

According to the Speaker, the mentioned formula remains unchanged even if Hariri chose to reject it. "Such substantial issues cannot become the captive of the mood" of politicians, he said in reference to Hariri.

Berri also mocked at claims that Hezbollah’s arms changed the identity of the parliamentary majority. "Is it possible that MP Walid Jumblat got scared from arms while MP Henri Helou didn't?" Berri wondered.

JUMBLATT: MARCH 14 TAKING COUNTRY INTO WAR
For his part, the head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt rejected the March 14 campaign.

Speaking to Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar, Jumblatt warned that the remains of his former alliance were taking the country into a "war of civilizations." He said that the so-called March 14 forces were adopting sectarian, inciting and extremist slogans, engaging the country into a dangerous war of civilizations.

One day earlier, Jumblatt announced that the Progressive Socialist Party will not take part in Sunday's March 14 rally "as we can only remain in a position that would protect the peace and Lebanon's unity." He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine that the party has never prevented the citizens from expressing their opinions but it knows that the people are responsible enough to refuse to participate in an occasion where speeches will be aimed at inciting strife, hatred, and sectarianism.

AOUN: WE’RE PROUD OF RESISTANCE ARMS

The Free Patriotic Movement leader, who said his party chooses resisting Israel and not opposing Lebanon’s Sunnis, assailed his political rivals for their performance in the political life in Lebanon. “We haven’t witnessed a thing from them after six years,” Aoun said. “The other camp is using bribes and the media to destroy the other. Curses have become a habit for them. We challenge them to present their documents, we have documents of our own and we will put the others on trial.”

Aoun rejected the other camp’s rhetoric as ‘disgusting’ and concluded that the new majority in the country is working on building a real state, but not with the corruptors who are moving with complete freedom.
Meanwhile, the head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun undermined the war launched by the so-called March 14 forces against the Resistance and its arms. “We are proud of the Resistance’s arms that have preserved our dignity,” Aoun told reporters following his parliamentary bloc’s weekly meeting.
