GAZA, (PIC)-- Spokesman of Hamas Sami Abu Zuhri has affirmed that his movement was committed to the reconciliation signed with Fatah faction in Cairo, and urged patrons of the agreement, the Arab League and Egypt, to pressure Fatah to respect it.

Abu Zuhri told Quds Press that Fatah leaders were launching a media campaign against Hamas to make it accept Salam Fayyad as premier of the national unity government.
He charged that Fatah did not respect the articles of the agreement that stipulated among other things that the premier should be accepted by both parties and that no specific name would be imposed on the other party.

Abu Zuhri said that Hamas was ready to discuss all names proposed by Fatah for the post of premier with the exception of Fayyad, adding that American and foreign pressures were trying to impose Fayyad as premier.

Hamas has accurate information that American officials contacted PA chief and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas asking not to meet with Hamas leader Khaled Mishaal in Cairo and he agreed, Abu Zuhri said.

For his part, Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, a Hamas leader, said in a press release on Friday that Fatah delegation during the talks did not object on ruling out Fayyad.

He said that Fatah delegates then later said, quoting Abbas, that Fayyad was the faction’s sole candidate. He hoped, however, that the obstacle would be resolved and dialog would resume.
