Jews march provocatively to mark Jerusalem occupation - ICC warns Israel rapidly perpetuating 'Jewish capital'

Jews march provocatively to mark Jerusalem occupation

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Hundreds of Jewish settlers have flooded the streets of Jerusalem waving Israeli flags and marching provocatively and chanting, “death to Arabs”, as the Israeli army stood guard.

They gathered Wednesday evening to celebrate the Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank in 1967.

The marchers erupted in violent clashes with the Palestinian population. Police arrested five youths in the Sheikh Jarrah district, an Arab district with several settlement outposts, after fistfights took place and the youths hurled stones at a settler who tried to enter a local mosque.

Police closed many streets leading to the Old City, and large numbers of police and border guards were deployed throughout the city, particularly near Al-Aqsa Mosque and what Jews call the wailing wall and where the marches were most prevalent.

According to a recent poll, most Israelis oppose freezing settlement construction in the occupied east Jerusalem and handing over any part of Jerusalem to the Palestinians.

The poll taken by Israeli Channel One showed that 73 percent of Israelis would not like to see Jerusalem under international supervision, as suggested in previous peace initiatives; and 66 percent are against a settlement freeze and turning over land to Palestinians to use for an independent state.

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Islamic Christian Commission have warned that the Israeli government is rapidly trying to make Jerusalem the permanent capital of Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized while addressing US Congress last week that Israel would not reduce itself to 1967 borders and wished to make an undivided Jerusalem its capital.

Israel has been “forging its history, civilization, and religious, cultural, and humanitarian heritage”, the ICC said in a statement it released on Wednesday.

“Judaization has been moving in full swing before the world, and especially the Arab and Islamic worlds, in spite of international legitimacy and resolutions, through the confiscation of the city's lands and construction of settler neighborhoods, the removal of Islamic and Christian landmarks and replacing them the Jewish ones, and the ejecting of its residents and confiscation of their homes and changing the names of the neighborhoods into Jewish names.”

In the statement, the ICC said the Israeli government is able to apply such policies because of its support from the US and other western states and the subservience of Arab regimes.

The ICC expressed hope to form movements of change across the Arab world, for a turning point in correcting the Mideast conflict, restoring Palestine and curbing Israel's arrogance and racism.
