Vahidi: “Israel” Afraid of Its Own Shadow
Local Editor Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has dismissed the "Israeli" threats of war against the Islamic Republic as "worthless," stressing that the "Israeli" regime makes such assertions out of absolute fear.
"The Zionists are today even afraid of their own shadow [and are] therefore trying to control this disappointing atmosphere by [staging] confusion and psychological warfare, but should know that propaganda will not resolve their problems," Vahidi said on Monday.
The Iranian official assured that the "Israeli" officials' warmongering statements are working counterproductively by bringing the regime's army and "war machine" nearer to destruction.
"Officials of the Zionist regime are having serious political disagreements among themselves and these remarks bear no value," the Iranian defense minister added.
"The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are currently at the highest level of defensive and military preparedness and will give a crushing response to any aggressors," he guaranteed.

The "Israeli" president Shimon Peres has spoken out against any possible attack on Iran, saying the prospect of a unilateral attack on the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy facilities keeps him awake at night.
"I can't sleep from sheer worry about what could happen if there would be a unilateral "Israeli" attack," Peres told the "Israeli" daily Yediot Ahronot on Sunday.
Peres reiterated that Tel Aviv will need Washington's help for a military operation against Tehran, noting that he felt "morally obliged" to make the remarks against an "Israeli" attack without US support.
 He also accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Minister of Military Affairs Ehud Barak of creating "unnecessary hysteria and panic" among the "Israeli" public.Reuters quoted Peres as saying on Thursday "Now, it's clear to us that we can't do it alone... It's clear to us we have to proceed together with America." He said his talks with his US counterpart Barack Obama has convinced him that "this is an American interest" to halt Iran's nuclear energy program, expressing confidence in Obama's attempts to prevent the Islamic Republic from enriching uranium on its soil. Despite US and "Israeli" allegations that Iran seeks nuclear arms, Tehran has reiterated over and over that it is a signatory to the nuclear Non-proliferation treaty, and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency it has the right to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. On February 22, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Islamic Republic considers the pursuit and possession of nuclear weapons "a grave sin" from every logical, religious and theoretical standpoint. Tel Aviv has vowed to harshly strike Iran, yet Iranian officials have promised a crushing response to such an attack against the Islamic Republic, warning it could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.
