Syria’s election to UN decolonization committee upsets Israel

Inspite of the US-Israel bloody campaign to topple Bashar al-Assad’s Syrian government – last week, Syrian representative at United Nations, Bashar Ja’afari PhD, was unimously re-elected rapporteur of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization. This shows that everyone at the UN doesn’t agree with Israel’s wish to have a regime change in Damacus.

Syria[1]In November 2012, the Committee on Decolonization in its report had blasted the Zionist regime for its actions against the two-state solution for Palestine, supported by the US, EU and the world community. The committee also condemned the Zionist regime for the arrest of some 500 Palestinian children yearly, many kept in solitary confinement.

Known also as the Committee of 24, it was created by the UN General Assembly in 1961. The current 24-menber Special Committee includes China, Venezuela, Russia, Tunisia, Iran, India, Indonesia, Cuba and Syria.

Geneva-based Jewish group, UN Watch, has demanded that UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, the US and EU diplomats should condemn the “revolting and absurd” re-election of antisemite Ja’afri.
The UN is helping the Assad regime portray itself as a UN human rights arbiter. That’s indefensible to Syria’s victims,” claimed Hillel Neuer, director of the UN Watch. One wonders who are the “victims” in Hillel’s file – nine million Palestinian or the entire population of Lebanon, or the 20,000 Syrians living in Israeli occupied Golan Heights since June 1976? But, then one has to ignore Hillel Neuer’s silly Jewish rant, as the dude has been chasing his fellow Jewish professor Richard Falk since later’s appoint as the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for the Palestinian Territories in 2008.

Last year, the Jewish lobby groups forced American Jewish broadcaster (ABC), Barbara Jill Walters 82, to apologize for using her influence to get Sheherazad Ja’afri 22 (dughter of Bashar Ja’afri) admitted to one of Jewish-controlled Ivy League university and internship at the pro-Israel CNN. Sheherazad worked as one of Assad’s aides in the past. In 2011, Walters visited Assad family in Damascus, and called Assad “intelligent and charming” on her show.

In 2011, to Israel’s great disappointment Syrian representatives were elected to two UNESCO human rights committees.
