WE ARE SCREWED NO MATTER WHO FORMS THE NEW ISRAELI GOVERNMENT

The ballots have been counted…… yet there is no government. This has been the norm in Israel since Menachem Begin stepped down as Prime Minister in 1983. There have been ‘rotations’, coalitions, but no real governing body.

As I write this the two leading Parties, Kadima and Likud, are desperately seeking ways to form a coalition with those Parties willing to work with them. Common denominator being the continuation of the occupation, the expansion of illegal settlements, and the draining of resources belonging to other countries.

It won’t matter in the slightest who actually becomes the next Prime Minister, be it Livni or Netanyahu. The only difference between them are their names and gender. As far as the Parties they represent, there are no differences whatsoever.

The ‘never elected’ President of Israel, Shimon Peres, has before him the task of establishing a government in the next few days. Will it be a Unity Government of Likud and Kadima? Will it be a coalition of one of those two together with Lieberman’s ‘fourth reich party’ and Labour? No matter what combination is chosen, the electorate in Israel is screwed. The people of Palestine are doubly screwed, and the taxpayer in the United States will pay for it with his hard earned dollars.

Is this the type of ‘Democracy’ the people of America want to support? Somehow I feel that if the new Administration allows the facts to be presented to them things would be different. Now is not the time to support Israel blindly. Now is the time to divest and boycott…. only then will we all come out winners in the end.
