OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Sheikh Ra'ed Salah, the leader of the Islamic Movement in 1948 occupied Palestine, has warned of a "Zionist scheme" aimed at flattening more than 1,700 houses in occupied Jerusalem during 2009.

Sheikh Salah told a press conference in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem on Sunday that he received information that the Israeli occupation authority was planning the demolition of that number of houses.

He pointed out that implementing the scheme would displace more than 17,000 Jerusalemite citizens, adding that occupied Jerusalem was currently passing through the most serious stage since its occupation in 1967.

Salah appealed to the Arab and Islamic rulers and ruled to shoulder their responsibilities and save the holy city from the danger of judaization.
The Palestine Scholars League has asked the Arab rulers to prioritize the issue of occupied Jerusalem and its holy Aqsa Mosque during their upcoming summit meeting in Doha by the end of March.
