Hamdan confirms German mediation in prisoner swap deal

BEIRUT, (PIC)-- Osama Hamdan, a member of Hamas political bureau, confirmed the news on the German mediation in the prisoner swap deal, stating that his Movement did not ask for changing the Egyptian mediator.

In a press statement to Palestine newspaper published on Thursday, Hamdan said that the German mediation is known for its high credibility and commitment to a clear agenda and fixed rules in dealing with such files.

He expressed hope that the German mediation could succeed in its mission, noting that the German role came after all doors in the face of previous mediations were closed.

The Hamas official also said that his Movement does not want to keep Israeli detainee Gilad Shalit forever, but it is concerned with the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Hamdan warned the Israeli government of persisting in its intransigent attitude towards the deal, saying this attitude would lead to the termination of all mediations in this regard and make the fate of Shalit unknown.

Haneyya: Freeing prisoners is at hand

[ 27/08/2009 - 10:31 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Ismail Haneyya, the Palestinian premier, has expressed confidence that the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli occupation authority (IOA) jails was now nearer than ever before.

Haneyya, speaking at an Iftar (Breaking the fasting) banquet organized by Hamas Movement in central Gaza on Wednesday evening, did not elaborate on this issue as media reports spoke of an imminent deal between Hamas and the IOA via Egyptian mediation.

He said that the Palestinian people should unite in face of conspiracies and in face of occupation, adding that the holy month of Ramadan serves as an opportunity to display tolerance.

The premier underlined that Jerusalem would never be Jewish despite the repeated IOA attempts to change its landmarks, stressing that it would remain Islamic regardless of incessant judaization attempts.
