GAZA, (PIC)-- The minister of public works and housing, Dr. Yousef Al-Mansi, has appealed to Arab governments and international institutions to rush serious aid to the Palestinian housing sector that is daily targeted by the Israeli occupation authority (IOA).

He said in a statement on the occasion of the Arab housing day (30/9) that the Gaza Strip was in urgent need of more than 60,000 housing units, adding that the latest IOA war on Gaza had displaced thousands of families.

Mansi said that the tight siege and continued closure of the Gaza crossings had their toll on the housing sector, as the ministry could not meet the growing needs of the citizens.

The minister said that the Palestinians were experiencing a real tragedy and difficult economic conditions especially the Jerusalemites who are daily threatened by the IOA with deportation and demolition of their property.

He asked the donor countries and international institutions to lay down the development of the Palestinian housing sector as a topmost priority and to pressure the IOA into opening the Gaza crossings to allow entry of construction material and equipment.
