OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Arab Knesset member Mohamed Baraka on Wednesday called on the international community to state its position towards the policy of ethnic cleansing practiced by Israel in occupied Jerusalem.
Baraka added that the response of the international community would test its ability to enforce the international legitimacy despite ten years of Palestinian disappointment.
These remarks came after an Israeli center for the defense of individuals’ rights revealed data it obtained from the Israeli interior ministry stating that Israel withdrew ID cards of 4,600 Palestinians in Jerusalem in 2008.
The Knesset member condemned such measure as a crime against humanity.
He added that that the Israeli government stepped up this policy during its negotiations with the Palestinian authority (PA) and its deceitful talk about peace to cover up its crime.
The lawmaker urged the European union to cling to its position regarding the recognition of east Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine and pressure Israel to stop its violations in the city.
In another related context, the Islamic Movement in the 1948 occupied lands strongly denounced Wednesday the Israeli decisions issued against Palestinian leaders in charge of the Aqsa Mosque which deprived them from visiting it, the latest of which was the decision issued against sheikh Ikrima Sabri, the preacher of the Mosque.
In a press release, the Movement said that the Israeli occupation authorities in the holy city handed sheikh Sabri an order demanding him not to enter the Aqsa Mosque and threatened him with arrest if he did not comply.
The statement said that such Israeli step is a form of religious persecution that is aimed to empty the Aqsa Mosque from its worshipers and scholars, calling on all Muslim scholars and worshipers to highlight this serious issue in their speeches.
