DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Upon his arrival at Damascus international airport, British lawmaker George Galloway, who is leading an aid convoy to the besieged Gaza Strip, expressed his dismay at the absence of the Arab role in organizing aid convoys to Gaza.

“It is a shame that this convoy is coming from Europe and not from the Arab countries,” Galloway was quoted as saying.

He expressed his thanks to the Syrian authorities for facilitating the entry of Lifeline 3 convoy organized by the UK-based Viva Palestina movement, describing Syria as a fortress and the symbol of pride that never forsook Palestine.

In a press statement on Monday to the Palestinian information center (PIC), Galloway said that Lifeline 3 convoy is a message of solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza on the first anniversary of the Israeli war.

The British activist added that this convoy is aimed to direct the world’s attention on this anniversary to the war criminals in Israel on one hand and to the valiant Palestinian resistance on the other hand, expressing hope that Egypt would read the massage from this perspective.

“We come in peace to Egypt to get safely to Palestine,” he underlined.

The activist also said that the growing pressures on the British government resulted in the arrest warrant against former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni, noting the pro-Palestine pressure groups in Europe are working on tightening the noose on Israel

Earlier on Sunday morning, the vehicles of the lifeline convoy were warmly received at the Bab Al-Salama border crossing in Aleppo by a number of Syrian officials, people and Palestinian leaders.

In a welcoming speech, Osama Hamdan, the representative of Hamas in Lebanon, said that this aid convoy is the fruit of efforts made by some free men and women from Europe in solidarity with the Palestinian Arab rights aiming at breaking the siege on Gaza.

For its part, the Palestinian popular struggle front strongly denounced on Sunday Egypt for complying with the Zio-American dictates and tightening the siege on Gaza through building a steel wall on its borders in Rafah area.

During its participation in a ceremony held to celebrate the anniversary of Hamas’s inception, the representative of the front also slammed the Palestinian Authority (PA) for its persistence in wagering on the illusions of the settlement process.

He highlighted that the national reconciliation cannot be achieved unless the PA reconsiders its policy of negotiation with the Israeli occupation and its engagement in the peace process which proved failure as admitted by the PA negotiators themselves.

Hamdan: Lifeline-3 a message to the world

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Osama Hamdan, Hamas's representative in Lebanon, has said that the "Lifeline-3" aid convoy to the Gaza Strip is a message to the world that the Israeli siege is a crime that should come to an immediate end.

Hamdan told the PIC on Monday that the convoy sent other messages mainly that the Palestinian people's steadfastness was backed by others who wish to end the siege imposed on that people.

He noted that the convoy was met with official and popular backing wherever it passed, which pointed to an international trend against the Israeli and American oppression against the Palestinian people.

The Hamas official noted in particular the warm welcome accorded to this convoy in Syria, which, he said, reflected the Syrian permanent backing to the Palestinian people and cause.

He hoped that the Arabs would break the siege and convince and support Egypt in opening the Rafah terminal once and for all.
