OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on Tuesday handed 12 Palestinian citizens in Al-Aghwar area, known as the Jordan Valley, demolition orders against their homes and gave them until January 14 to vacate their homes and leave the areas where they live.

Palestinian local sources said that the IOA handed three citizens in Fasayel Al-Fawqa village demolition warnings at the pretext of unlicensed construction and also gave eight families in the village of Jiftlik demolition orders at the pretext that their homes are located near Mitsuwa settlement.

Other Palestinian citizens in the village of Marj Naja also received demolition orders.

In a related context, Arij center for applied studies reported Tuesday that Israel demolished 573 Palestinian homes in occupied Jerusalem from 2000 until 2008 and 76 homes in 2009.

The center added that in 2009, Israel issued 908 demolition orders against Palestinian homes in the holy city, noting that the policy of demolition escalated during the Israeli war on Gaza.

It stressed that Israel uses the pretext of unlicensed construction and security needs such as building near the separation wall or Israeli settlements to demolish the homes of Jerusalemite Palestinians
