GAZA, (PIC)-- Spokesman for the Palestinian government Taher Al-Nunu stated Tuesday that some international and regional besieging parties want to retain the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip in order to blackmail the government politically and punish the Palestinian people for their democratic choice.
In a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC), spokesman Nunu slammed Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Abul Ghait for claiming that Hamas wants Egypt to recognize its right to rule Gaza.
The spokesman said that his Movement wants the Arab and Muslim countries and the international community to recognize the results of the last elections by which the Palestinian people chose Hamas to rule, stressing that no one has the right to expropriate the convictions of the Palestinian people.
Abul Ghait also told the middle east news agency on Tuesday that the closure of the Rafah border crossing is aimed to punish Hamas and to fulfil Egypt’s commitments towards Israel and the international community.
Regarding the Palestinian relationship with Egypt, the government headed by premier Ismail Haneyya discussed during its weekly meeting on Tuesday the investigation conducted into the events that broke out at the Palestinian-Egyptian borders.
The government stressed its keenness on a good relationship with Egypt and described the current tension between the two sides as a summer cloud that will clear soon.
It expressed its dismay at the smear campaign waged by some Egyptian media outlets against the Palestinian resistance and the democratic choice of the Palestinian people and called on them to consider the joint national interests of the Arab Nation and not forget that Israel is the main enemy.
The government also discussed other important issues especially the Israeli military escalation against Gaza, the developments in the occupied city of Jerusalem and the aid convoys that arrived in Gaza lately.
