GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, one of Hamas's senior leaders, has said that PA premier Ismail Haneyya did not ask to visit Cairo, explaining that he rather called for a direct meeting between Hamas and Egyptian officials.

Bardawil, a lawmaker, said that Haneyya personally informed Egypt of his proposal through one of his ministers in the Palestinian government in Gaza.

The MP added that the goal is not Haneyya's visit since it entails political complications regarding Palestinian legitimacy that he did not wish to raise with Egypt.

Bardawil, in a statement to Al-Bayan website on Tuesday, said that a Hamas delegation to Cairo would explain what happened on the Palestinian borders and propose a solution to the problem through a joint investigative committee that would issue recommendations to ensure non-recurrence of those events in addition to restoring Palestinian-Egyptian relations to normalcy.
