Gaza completes its siege by building a harbour at the end of the steel wall

AL-AREESH, (PIC)-- Egyptian authorities are going to build a harbour at its sea border with the Gaza Strip to be used by Egyptian naval patrol boats, an Egyptian security source announced on Thursday.

International news agencies reported security sources said that the depth of the dock is 10 meters and extends 25 meters from the seashore at the Egyptian side of Rafah.

The harbour will form a sea extension steel wall being built underground to stop the tunnels used by the people of Gaza to smuggle essential supplies like food and fuel to mitigate the effects of the three-year-old siege on the coastal strip.

The source was reported to have stated that this harbour will guarantee that Palestinian fishing boats will not get close and aims to secure the area.

The Egyptian navy patrols using this dock will also stop Egyptian fishing boats from crossing the border so that Israeli navy boats do not fire at them, according to the Egyptian security source

The source also said that large rocks were transported to the border point number 1 where the harbour is going to be built.

Another security source said that the new harbour will enhance the ability of the Egyptian navy to prevent smuggling using the sea to the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, Egyptian security sources in Rafah confirmed that a 3-person military delegation from the US embassy in Cairo visited Rafah to inspect progress in the building of the underground steel wall and said that such visits take place every month.
