CAIRO, (PIC)-- Ezzat Al-Resheq, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, said Tuesday that Egypt has to exercise sovereign right over its territory through opening the Rafah border crossing instead of exercising this right through building the steel wall.

In a press statement to the Egyptian Addustour newspaper, Resheq added there are many question marks hanging over the timing of building this wall in conjunction with Israel’s threats to wage a new war on the Gaza Strip.

He added that many political analysts opined that the building of this wall at this particular time is a kind of political pressure on Hamas to force it to sign Egypt’s reconciliation paper, despite the fact that Hamas proved more than once that it won't yield to pressure.

As for the reconciliation issue, the Hamas official said that Egypt still refused to open its paper to check the contentious points.

The official said that the real problem in Egypt’s reconciliation paper is that it excluded issues that were agreed upon by the Palestinian factions and included other issues that were still unresolved.

The official stressed that there is an American veto on the reconciliation issue, noting that Hamas has a conviction that the national dialog sessions which took place in Cairo were aimed at making gains regarding the election file.

He expressed his Movement’s belief that Mahmoud Abbas has intentions to rig any coming elections, noting that former US president Jimmy Carter confirmed his rejection to oversee any future elections for his confidence that there would be widespread electoral fraud.
