The entire convoy drove out of the Palestinian refugee camp in Syria about 11 hours ago and made its way to the port cheered on by Palestinians on both sides of the road all the way. 195 vehicles were taken on board the ferry with only one American and some 10-20 Turks accompanying the convoy.
Stormy weather, however, delayed departure. Also, Israel has extended its piracy zone making the voyage longer. Once cleared at El-Arish, Egyptians have given an assurance that the convoy will get through Rafah but it will be subject to stringent customs checks which could take 48 hours. Egypt has said that ONLY medical aid will be allowed through.
