Grandi: Conditions in Gaza worsening

CAIRO, (PIC)-- Filippo Grandi, the new commissioner-general of UNRWA, has warned that the humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip were worsening day by day and the people there were suffering as a result of the siege on them.


Grandi said after meeting in Cairo with Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Abul Ghait on Sunday that the UN body was dealing with such a situation for the past 60 years, adding that the major difficulty was moving in and out of the Strip.


The Strip is also suffering due to lack of construction material, the commissioner said, adding that he discussed those difficulties with Abul Ghait.


Grandi said that he explained to the Egyptian chief diplomat the suffering of the people of Gaza as a result of their poor living conditions.


The UNRWA top official had earlier met with Arab League secretary general Amre Mousa.
