MOSCOW, (PIC)-- Khaled Mishaal, the chairman of the political bureau of Hamas, said that his Movement was looking forward to an advanced Russian role in the Palestine cause especially in breaking the siege on Gaza and ending its people's suffering.
Mishaal, during a visit to the Moscow Congregational Mosque on Tuesday, said that Russia's interest is with Arabs and Muslims and not with the West.
He said that Hamas was also aspiring for more involvement on the part of the Russian people and Muslims in particular in breaking the siege on Gaza and contributing to its reconstruction in addition to supporting the Palestinian people's steadfastness and national rights.
Mishaal said that Hamas further hoped that the Russians would support Palestinian resistance against occupation and back the Palestinians in face of the repeated Israeli aggressions.
For his part, the chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia, Ravil Gainutdin, said that the internal division in the Palestinian arena was in the interest of Israel.
He asked the Palestinians to bypass their differences and expedite national reconciliation.
Gainutdin said that Russian Muslims supported the Palestinian people's wish for an independent and sovereign state.
He called for an end to the excavations under the Aqsa Mosque and to the settlement drive in occupied Jerusalem.
