NAZARETH, (PIC)-- Admiral Mike Mullen, the current chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, is to discuss with Israeli military commanders means of blocking "arms smuggling" into the Gaza Strip.

Hebrew media said that Mullen is to meet with Israeli chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi, war minister Ehud Barak and a number of general command officials.

The Hebrew radio said that means of ensuring continued qualitative supremacy of the Israeli army would be discussed along with efforts to block the smuggling of weapons to Hamas and Lebanese Hizbullah party.

Mullen had met with Ashkenazi two weeks ago in Brussels at the annual conference for the chiefs of staff of NATO countries.

Masri: Blair and Clinton should turn words to deeds

GAZA, (PIC)-- MP Mushir Al-Masri has called Sunday on Toni Blair, the envoy of the Quartet committee to the Middle East, and US secretary of state Hillary Clinton to turn their words of easing movement of the Palestinian people in the West Bank and improve living conditions in the Gaza Strip into tangible deeds.

Masri also criticized the "negative" history of Clinton and Blair in dealing with the Palestinian file, saying, "We all know that nothing good for the Palestinian people was accomplished at the hands of Clinton or Blair … indeed, Blair was an axe of destruction to our Ummah. He was and still is biased in favor of the USA and Israel against the interests of the Palestinian people".

He also described the period since Blair was appointed as an envoy of the Quartet as "the worst period in the peace process", stressing, "We have heard many sweet words from him (Blair) but nothing was implemented on the ground.

Masri also belittled the hopes attached by Clinton on Blair after she said that Blair would "intensify" his efforts together with US envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell to resume peace talks between the Israeli occupation and the PA authority in Ramallah, and to improve living conditions of the Gaza people.

He added, "This is a clear American confession that they were responsible for the four-year-old siege on the Gaza Strip that reaped the lives of hundreds of innocent Palestinians, the bulk of them were children, and which almost destroyed all aspects of life in the Strip".

It is also an acknowledgement from the USA that it was responsible for isolating the Palestinian people in Gaza for this long period of time, and serves as clear evidence that the USA was against any democracy that opposes its policy although honest and transparent, Masri highlighted.

"They (The USA and allies) thought they could subjugate the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip by starving them, but they got disgraced because the Palestinian people remained steadfast and Hamas's popularity among the Palestinian people increased day after day", Masri underscored.
