OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Al-Maqdesi foundation for society development said that Israel demolished more than 10,000 Palestinian homes in the neighborhoods of occupied Jerusalem during the past 10 years.
Director of the foundation Mu’aad Al-Zaatari stated that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) issued 850 demolition orders against Palestinian homes at the pretext of unlicenced construction from the beginning of 2010.
Zaatari told Palestine newspaper that the IOA municipal council in Jerusalem, during 2009, demolished 110 housing units including 35 homes, which were knocked down by their Palestinian owners after they received court orders.
He pointed out that the IOA issued in the same year 2,200 demolition orders against Palestinian homes in Jerusalem, adding the demolition policy is aimed to make demographic and architectural changes in the holy city.
The activist added that more than 1,500 Jerusalemite citizens in Al-Bustan neighborhood would be displaced after Israel issued demolition orders against their homes.
In a separate incident, the Israeli magistrate’s court placed three Palestinian young men from Al-Thawri neighborhood, south of the Aqsa Mosque, under house arrest and imposed on each of them a fine of 2,000 shekels, while it extended the detention of another one until next Thursday.
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) detained last Sunday four young men on allegation of throwing molotov cocktails and stones one month ago on a number of settlers, who seized Palestinian real estate in their neighborhood.
The father of detainee Mohamed Al-Taweel, whose detention was extended, said that the charges leveled by the Israeli intelligence against his son were fabricated and incorrect.
