Hammad: Taking over Gaza was a necessary step to end chaos

GAZA, (PIC)-- Palestinian minister of interior Fathi Hammad stated Monday that the armed takeover of the Gaza Strip was never on the agenda of the elected Palestinian government or Hamas Movement, but it was a necessary step to remove the lawlessness used to be plaguing Gaza at the time.

These remarks were made during a news conference held in the house of former slain interior minister Saeed Siyam on the fourth anniversary of forming the Palestinian government and the democratic victory achieved by Hamas in the 2006 parliamentary election.

Hammad said that his ministry completely recovered following the Israeli war on Gaza and resumed its active role in establishing law and order and serving the citizens.

The interior minister recalled the period following the electoral victory of Hamas four years ago and the formation of the Palestinian government and how Fatah faction in cooperation with international parties conspired against the government and tried to topple it.

The minister added that the security chaos fueled by international parties unsatisfied with the victory of Hamas forced late minister Saeed Siyam to form the executive force, with the full approval of then PA chief Mahmoud Abbas, in order to maintain security and order in the Strip.

He added that Hamas took over control of Gaza after the security chaos reached its peak and many of the executive force cadres, Hamas officials and innocent citizens were attacked or killed by Fatah-affiliated unruly elements.

The minister also touched on the devastating Israeli war waged on Gaza in cooperation with the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority in Ramallah which was enraged by Hamas’s control of the Strip.

Speaking about the execution of two Palestinian spies recently, the minister highlighted that his ministry will keep enforcing death penalty against everyone proved to have contacts with the Israeli occupation or tamper with the internal front.

He called in this regard on human rights organization to pay attention to widows and orphans who lost their loved ones because of those who were sentenced to death few days ago instead of wasting their time condemning the government for enforcing the law against criminals.
