Saadet party in Turkey to participate in Gaza convoy
[ 21/04/2010 - 09:28 AM ]
ISTANBUL, (PIC)-- The Turkish Saadet (felicity) party declared its participation in the fleet of ships heading to the besieged Gaza Strip in cooperation with the IHH relief foundation and Free Gaza movement in addition to other humanitarian organizations.
Head of the party Numan Kurtulmus told a news conference held in Istanbul on Tuesday that his party will support the fleet of ships as it did earlier with the Lifeline convoy.
Kurtulmus highlighted that Israel is the only entity which has no formal borders with neighboring countries for it is still expanding and encroaching gradually into the Palestinian lands, and imposing an oppressive blockade on Gaza without any consideration to international condemnation.
He also warned Israel of any attempt to attack the ships and called on the Turkish government to confront Israel’s expansionist policies in international meetings.
For his part, head of the IHH Bulent Yildirim said that more than 40 lawmakers will be on board the ships, noting that the harbor basin is being deepened in order to accommodate the large ships that will come to participate in the fleet.
Many European and Turkish humanitarian organizations formed lately an anti-siege coalition in Istanbul and declared their intention to organize a massive aid convoy of ships heading to Gaza in earlier May.
In a related context, the Jordanian Lifeline committee headed by former dean of engineers Wa’el Al-Saqa declared during a meeting held Tuesday in the compound of trade unions the launch of an intensive campaign to collect donations for the besieged Palestinians in Gaza.
Saqa said that the campaign is aimed at preparing a Jordanian aid convoy consisting mainly of building materials and then sending it to Gaza through the fleet of ships that will set sail from Turkey next month.
In the same context, the Libyan city of Benghazi witnessed the second launch of the humanitarian campaign for the support of the Palestinian people under the auspices of the international organization for peace and relief.
The Emirati Gulf newspaper said Tuesday that this campaign was organized to reflect a global uprising to save the Gaza people from hunger, blockade and oppression through sponsoring Palestinian individuals and families.
For his part, head of the international organization for peace Khaled Al-Khweiledi said, after viewing a documentary film illustrating different humanitarian tragedies in Gaza, that what the film presented was only a small fraction of the true suffering of Gaza people.
Khweiledi added that this film did not reveal the real expression of distressed widows and orphans, the loss of hope and future or the smell of destruction and death.
He noted that there is European and Arabian Gulf participation in the campaign, the thing which gives hope that the world started to feel the pain and suffering of Palestinians.
