OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Israeli settlers’ march in Wadi Hilwa neighborhood of Silwan area has ended at a late hour on Sunday morning, while the clashes between Palestinian young men and Israeli troops are still taking place at the time of reporting.
The settlers, who staged the march this morning led by extreme right-wingers Baruch Marzel and Itamar-Gvir, want the Palestinians removed from the area and their homes pulled down in order to build Talmudic gardens in their place.
One Palestinian was detained and at least five others including a paramedic were reportedly wounded during the clashes.
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) randomly fired rubber bullets and tear gas grenades at the protesters and homes in the village.
The clashes were concentrated in the vicinity of the sit-in tent which the residents in the neighborhood established in protest at the Israeli policy of seizing Palestinian homes and lands in Jerusalem.
The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) intensified earlier this morning the presence of its troops and policemen in Silwan area and closed its entrance. The troops also shut down the sit-in tent in the neighborhood.
Following the upsurge of clashes, the Israeli troops and policemen embarked on withdrawing the extremist settlers from the Silwan area.
Earlier this morning, the residents in Silwan area gathered in the sit-in tent in order to arrange their ranks and prepare themselves to ward off the settlers in the event they arrived at the area.
Different committees for the defense of Silwan area had warned the IOA of allowing extremist settlers to organize this provocative and racist march and held it responsible for the consequences.

Hamas: Silwan events prove failure of negotiations process

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Hamas said on Sunday that the provocative march of the Jewish fanatic settlers in the Silwan suburb, occupied Jerusalem, with the approval of the Israeli interior ministry pointed to the failure of the negotiations process.
A responsible source in the movement said in a press release that the march, which was protected by Israeli police and army, coincided with the visit to the region of American envoy George Mitchell and presented a practical proof on futility of negotiations with the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) that is insisting on colonizing and judaizing occupied Jerusalem.
The source asked the Oslo team led by Mahmoud Abbas, the former PA chief, to stop racing behind the peace mirage and to return to the Palestinian people's rights and constants.
The Sunday march, which was met with angry demonstrations by Jerusalemite youth in Silwan, ended with the injury of 5 Palestinian citizens including a paramedic at the hands of Israeli policemen who escorted the march while a demonstrator was detained.
For his part, Sheikh Ekrema Sabri, one of the preachers at the Aqsa Mosque, held the IOA government responsible for the consequences of what is happening to Jerusalem.
He told Al-Bayan website on Sunday that the march targets raising the morale of the Jewish settlers and weakening that of the Palestinians in preparation for controlling the entire holy city.
The Sheikh said that Silwan inhabitants faced the heavily armed security forces with bare chests and with solid determination to defend their holy shrines and lands.
He said that the Arab rulers know what they have to do and they should intervene to protect Jerusalem, Silwan, and the Aqsa Mosque.
It is a shame that the world is silent in face of such atrocities committed against Jerusalem and Islamic holy shrines, Sheikh Sabri said.
