OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Violent clashes broke out Saturday evening between Jerusalemite citizens and Israeli soldiers in Silwan district, south of the Aqsa Mosque, leading to the injury of 11 Palestinians and seven Israelis.

The clashes were sparked after a group of Israeli settlers and border guards assaulted Palestinian children playing outside their homes in a neighborhood in Silwan.

Afterwards, when the families hastened to defend their children, a large force of Israeli policemen stormed the area to protect the settlers and their guards and used live and rubber bullets and flashbang grenades against the angry Palestinians.

The confrontations were concentrated mainly in the vicinity of a settlement outpost known as Beit Yonatan overlooking Al-Bustan zone and led to the injury of a lot of Palestinian women.

Ahmed Qarra’ain, a member of Wadi Hilwa committee, said that such practices reflect Israel’s persistence in its aggressive policies against the native population in occupied Jerusalem, that are aimed at displacing them from their homes in order to Judaize the entire holy city.

In a separate incident, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) kidnapped four Palestinians from different West Bank areas after a day of confrontations between citizens and troops in villages adjacent to the segregation wall.

The Hebrew radio said that the IOF troops kidnapped two Palestinians classified as wanted in Qalqiliya and Ramallah cities and took them to investigation centers.

Local sources also reported that a Palestinian young man called Wa’el Al-Tarabulsi sustained different injuries when the Israeli police used excessive force to detain him in the Old City of Jerusalem during his presence in Salahuddin street.

The police claimed that the young man tried to snatch a gun from an Israeli policewoman and then shoot her, while eyewitnesses confirmed that Tarabulsi was rounded up and severely beaten after he uttered words glorifying God.

When a large number of Palestinian citizens gathered in the place after the incident, the Israeli police dispersed them with tear gas and rounded Tarabulsi’s brother as he was trying to tell them that his brother suffers from psychological problems.
