GAZA, (PIC)-- Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya called on the Arab countries to patronize inter-Palestinian reconciliation rather than resumption of negotiations between the PA in Ramallah and the Israeli occupation authority (IOA).
Haneyya, speaking during a visit at the labor ministry on Sunday, expressed regret at the Arab follow up committee's decision giving cover for indirect talks between the Fatah controlled PA in Ramallah and the IOA.
He said that the decision came in the wake of serious IOA escalation of judaization of occupied Jerusalem, settlement building, and banishment of Palestinians from their homeland.
The premier said that the new round of talks would not be different from the previous ones and would not be of any good to the Palestine cause.
For his part, Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, told the PIC on Sunday that former PA chief Mahmoud Abbas's declaration on resumption of talks with the IOA was legitimizing and covering the "Zionist enemy's crimes".
He added that Hamas rejects Abbas's decision, holding him partly responsible for the IOA crimes.
Taher slams Arab-backed PA decision to resume talks with Israel

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Dr. Maher Al-Taher, a senior official of the popular front for the liberation of Palestine (PFLP), strongly denounced the Arab-backed decision taken by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to resume indirect negotiations with Israel, saying this decision would cover up settlement and Judaization activities in Palestine.
Dr. Taher warned that there are no Zio-American guarantees for the success of the PA-Israeli peace talks, stressing that the Arab support for the PA decision to restart indirect negotiations with Israel comes after Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu dealt several blows to the PA and Arabs who wagered on the option of settlement.
“America always declares it stands by Israel and confirms its commitment to the protection of Israel’s security. It practices a kind of deception and misinformation. There are no guarantees or pledges to freeze settlement and curb Israel,” the PFLP official emphasized.
For its part, the Movement of Islamic Jihad said the decision to resume the PA-Israeli decision was already taken in the White House and the Arabs are deprived of any ability to take any position on the Palestinian cause.
An Islamic Jihad official said in a press release on Sunday that the Arab ministerial meeting lacks any practical value and has no power to decide whether or not to resume negotiations, describing the Arab decision in this regard as a mere political cover-up.
The official stressed that the Palestinian people and the Arab masses are being deceived about the reality of the PA-Israeli negotiations, denying that Israel froze its settlement activities as it claimed earlier and affirming that the facts on the ground prove otherwise.
He added that facts on the ground indicate there is a real threat to the whole Palestinian national project as a result of the impotent official Arab position and the state of weakness which the negotiation team is living in.
For his part, Syrian ambassador to Cairo Yousuf Ahmed criticized the statement issued by the Arab peace initiative committee on the resumption of talks between the PA and Israel.
He slammed Mahmoud Abbas for accepting oral reassurances from the American administration, although he experienced many times its positions and pledges.
Israelis, Palestinians 'to Start Talks within Days'
02/05/2010 Israeli and Palestinian officials said Sunday they expected to start indirect peace talks within days, following the Arab League's endorsement of a US-brokered plan to end the impasse.
"From the very start we have been in favor of peace talks without preconditions and the objective is to start in the coming days, at the latest next week," Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told public radio. "It is a positive development. The Arabs also want to break the deadlock," Ayalon added, referring to the Arab League decision Saturday to back a US plan to mediate talks between the sides as a prelude to direct negotiations.
US President Barack Obama's Mideast envoy George Mitchell is due back in the region for another round of shuttle diplomacy this week and is expected to hold talks with both sides. "President Abbas will meet with Mitchell on Friday," senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat told AFP.
Abbas said in a newspaper interview published Sunday that with the Arab League giving its blessing and a similar endorsement expected from the Palestine Liberation Organization's executive committee this week, the US- sponsored talks could now go ahead. "They will begin immediately and last for four months," Abbas told the Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam.nHe added that his planned visit to Washington this month will be for bilateral talks with Obama. "There is no plan for a tripartite summit with Netanyahu," he said.
