Islamic-Christian commission blames UN for Israel’s violations in J'lem

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Islamic-Christian commission for the support of Jerusalem held the UN and its institutions responsible for the deteriorating situation in occupied Jerusalem resulting from their failure to enforce their resolutions which regarded Jerusalem as an occupied land and called for its protection.

Secretary-general of the commission Hasan Khater said in a press release on Tuesday that the UN recognizes that Jerusalem is a land occupied by force and confirms that the violations being committed by Israel are illegal and its claims to have rights in the holy city are baseless.

Khater held the UN secretariat-general and its institutions, especially the security council, the general assembly, the trusteeship council and the international court of justice responsible for not implementing their resolutions and positions towards the issue of Jerusalem.

“The UN is an international authoritative body and has huge capabilities and potentials that make it responsible for what has happened and is still happening to the holy city and the Palestinian people in general,” the commission head underlined.

He highlighted that the UN resolutions were the only thing which made the Palestinians and Arabs committed for decades to the options decided by the international community and rely on these decisions as a basis to achieve the minimum of their legitimate rights, but the vulnerability of those decisions and the absence of implementation mechanisms numbed the feelings of Arabs and Palestinians and covered up Israel’s violations and greed.

In a related incident, Palestinian residents from Silwan neighborhood and the surrounding areas reported that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) carried out Monday night excavations and construction works in the area of Umayyad palaces south of the Aqsa Mosque.

They said that the construction works started as darkness fell last night under police protection.

Grand Mufti of Jerusalem warns of devastating religious war

GAZA, (PIC)-- Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Sheikh Mohamed Hussein strongly denounced the arson attack waged by Israeli settlers on the main mosque in Luban Al-Sharqiya village, south of Nablus, at dawn Tuesday which burned it down completely, warning that such crimes would lead to a devastating religious war.

Sheikh Hussein said during a tour of the scene that the attacks on mosques fall within a systematic policy aimed at fueling a religious conflict and insulting humanitarian and religious values of other peoples, recalling the arson attack on Yasuf mosque, the annexation of Ibrahimi and Bilal mosques and the repeated settlers’ attacks on the Aqsa Mosque.

The grand Mufti highlighted that the heavenly religions prohibit inflicting harm on places of worship and call for sparing them any conflict.

He also deplored Israeli jailers for tearing a holy Qur’an book in Ashkelon prison, holding Israel fully responsible for the consequences of such an act.

For his part, Dr. Salah A-Bardawil, the spokesman for Hamas’s parliamentary bloc, said that the burning of a mosque in Nablus is a fruit of the frivolous negotiations between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Israeli occupation.

Dr. Bardawil stressed in a press release on Tuesday that the sole beneficiary of the peace talks is Israel which seeks to implement its schemes and commit its crimes under the guise of negotiations.

He noted that the Arab follow-up committee is not empowered to issue decisions that cover up Israel’s violations, but its job is to follow up the Arab peace initiative, adding that Fatah faction took advantage of the Arab decision to get engaged in negotiations with Israel, the thing which could undermine the Palestinian rights and constants.
