Galloway: Lifeline 4 will participate in the world's largest aid convoy to Gaza

[ 28/06/2010 - 03:25 PM ]

LONDON, (PIC)-- Former British lawmaker and head of Viva Palestina George Galloway stated that his Lifeline 4 would join other convoys to form the world's largest ever aid convoy that would head for the besieged Gaza Strip in mid-September.

During a conference held in London on Sunday evening, Galloway said that his Lifeline 4 convoy would join other convoys coming from the Arabian Gulf and northern Africa to arrive at Gaza borders at the same time.

He noted that Viva Palestina would also be a key partner in the next Freedom Flotilla convoy.

The British activist underlined in his speech that Israel's deadly attack on the Freedom Flotilla that led to the murder of nine Turkish passengers exposed the Israeli occupation before the whole world more than ever before.

In a related context, the popular Egyptian campaign to break Gaza siege announced that it would send to Gaza on July 23 the convoy Freedom 2 after the first one was prevented from passing through the Rafah border crossing.

The campaign denounced in a statement on Monday the Egyptian authorities for its intransigent attitude towards Gaza convoys and for ignoring the political leadership's decision to open the Rafah crossing.

Hamas Leader: Wave of Flotillas to Sail for ‘Israel’ after World Cup

28/06/2010 Israel should expect at least eight more Gaza-bound ships headed in its direction shortly after the World Cup tournament, top Hamas leader Mahmoud A-Zahar told British daily The Independent on Monday.

"After the Mondial [World Cup] at least eight ships will come from the Gulf," Zahar said.

The Hamas leader also said that he expected "more ships than you expected" to set out for Gaza in August during the holy month of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting.

Zahar remarked on the possibility that Egypt could also stop the Gaza-bound flotillas and said that "they have the right in international law to go as the Israelis go. Egypt will never be able to stop such a campaign."

He also responded to reports that Iran could sponsor an aid ship and asked "Where is your morality if Iran is going to give food and drugs? What justifies preventing that? Give me the basis [for that] from your bible."

The Hamas leader also reiterated his criticism against Israel's reneging on a prisoner swap deal for the release of the captured Israeli occupation soldier Gilad Shalit. "Up to this moment, the Israeli intention is not to have an agreement," Zahar said.
