20 non-government organizations ask the EU to break the siege on Gaza
[ 21/07/2010 - 09:50 AM ]
BRUSSELS, (PIC)-- Twenty non-governmental organizations in Europe have urged the European Union to break the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip for the fourth consecutive year and not only alleviate it.
The organizations in a message to the EU foreign ministers and the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that if they really wanted to help reinvigorate the Gaza economy and help the people there rebuild their lives they should demand a full lifting of the siege.
They said that the Israeli allegation of easing the siege did not include the basic materials for Gaza citizens.
The organizations called on the EU to pressure the concerned parties into putting an end to the embargo on exports from Gaza, allow freedom of movement for people in and out of the Strip, allow entry of reconstruction material, allow citizens to farm their lands and fish at sea at will and upgrade the crossings' commercial potential
