ALGERIA, (PIC)-- An Algerian aid ship carrying 85 containers of medical and food supplies is ready to set sail to the Gaza Strip next Sunday, the Algerian Khabar newspaper reported Monday.
The paper said Union of Muslim Scholars Vice-President Ammar Talibi said aid has been delivered to the ship’s storage in El-Harrach from Bordj Bou-Arreridj, Setif, Blida, and Medea. More aid, he said, will be coming from Tizi Ouzou, Relizane, Oran, and Constantine.
85 containers of relief aid are expected to be carried on board. Participating activists will travel by plane to Egypt to meet the ship, which is exclusively designated for donations.. The ship is scheduled to arrive at El-Arish port and the aid material will then be transported by land through the Rafah crossing.
The Egyptian embassy has not objected to the list of medical and food supplies it will take to Gaza, Talibi said, denying that Egypt has prohibited the entry of foods such as sugar to Gaza. He clarified, however, that the government previously prohibited sugar purchased in Egypt from being transported to Gaza.
The Algerian Union of Muslim Scholars has conditioned that the Egyptian embassy will take responsibility for personally delivering the aid.
The humanitarian aid will include milk formula, canned foods, sugar, rice, flour, dried goods, oil, school supplies, toys, and medical supplies.
