GAZA, (PIC)-- Senior Islamic Jihad official Khaled Al-Batesh warned that Israel's insistence on engaging in direct peace talks with the Palestinian Authority (PA) means that it intends to politically liquidate the Palestinian cause as a prelude to taking military action against the Gaza Strip or regional countries.
Batesh made his remarks in a symposium organized Sunday evening by the Islamic Jihad Movement in Deir Al-Balah town in central Gaza Strip.
The Islamic Jihad official criticized the Arab League's peace initiative committee for approving another round of direct negotiations with Israel, considering its position the worst in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
The official pointed out that the Israeli occupation is globally isolated and besieged as a result of its actions and the golden recipe for ending its crisis is to take photos of Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu sitting side by side with Mahmoud Abbas.
As for the inter-Palestinian reconciliation, he stressed that Israel and Washington are working hard on obstructing any attempt to end the division in the Palestinian arena because this situation is in their favor and helps undermine the Palestinian resistance.
For his part, deputy minister of foreign affairs in Gaza Ahmed Yousuf talked in his speech about the differences that happened following the Hamas Movement's victory in 2006 elections and the failure to build a Palestinian political partnership on sound bases.
Yousuf castigated the option of negotiations with Israel, saying that historically the peace process gave the Palestinian people nothing and politically it was a misleading process aimed at managing the conflict and not finding a real solution that ends up with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
He also underlined that the survival of the peace process is very important for Israel in terms of security, where this situation is used well to hold meetings and courses intended for brainwashing members of the PA security forces into thinking that Hamas and Islamic Jihad are seeking to disrupt the project of building the Palestinian state.
