RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Hassan Karajeh of Safa, Ramallah, called on local and international human rights organizations to intervene in easing the suffering of his imprisoned 22-year-old sister, Sumoud Karajeh.
Sumoud, who has been held at the Damon prison since October, 2009, reportedly pounded her head against a wall in her cell because of the medical neglect practiced by the Israeli prisons authority (IPA).
She visited the prison’s dentist to pull out two of her molars, but the dentist recklessly, or deliberately, broke her jaw in the operation, after which she underwent another operation to solve the problem which caused pain in her other teeth. She now lives in a state of severe pain without treatment.
Hassan says his sister has lost contact with her family after the IPA prohibited her from sending or receiving letters or accepting visits from her family, whose worries have increased after learning about her health status.
In related developments, Qassami prisoner Ibrahim Hamed, 45, was subjected to a 5-hour-long court hearing last Wednesday at the Ofer prison, south Ramallah, said Hamed’s family.
Israeli military prosecutors have charged Hamed with planning attacks between 2001 and 2003 supervised by Qassami leader Mohammed Arman, but he has denied all charges held against him.
Mohammed Arman, who appeared at the hearing on Hamed’s behalf, pleaded that he has medical reports showing he was unconscious when forced to confess against the defendant.
Ibrahim Hamed has been accused of directly and indirectly killing more than 80 Israelis and wounding hundreds during the Al-Aqsa Intifada (uprising).
Meanwhile, the wife of ex-captive Ahmed Abdurrahman Mousa is calling for assistance and consideration of her tragedy.
Mousa was arrested during the first uprising and sentenced to a ten-year prison term. But he was released after one year because of poor health conditions. He suffers from a cartilage disease, piercing chest pains, and sciatica, and he is not always able to receive treatment owing to limited means.
He was subjected to severe torture since the beginning of his arrest, during which he was struck in the head and stabbed with a knife.
