QB best strategy is to capture Israeli soldiers to free Palestinian prisoners

GAZA, (PIC)-- With the continued detention of more than 11,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails and the failure of peace negotiations to get them released, the attempts made by Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, remain the optimal and most effective way to extract their freedom.

The capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in late 2006 was not the only operation of its kind that was carried out by Al-Qassam Brigades.

More than 17 years ago, Al-Qassam resistance fighters were able to capture an Israeli officer of low rank called Yaron Hims, 20, but they had to kill him when he suddenly tried to resist and attacked some of the fighters.

In 1993, the Brigades also carried out eight operations in order to capture Israeli soldiers. The operations were almost successful and led to the killing of eight soldiers and three policemen.

During the last Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, the Brigades succeeded in capturing many Israeli soldiers during their incursions, but they were always targeted along with their captors by Israeli warplanes.
