DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Ezzet Al-Resheq, a political bureau member of Hamas, has criticized the PLO executive committee for endorsing the resumption of direct negotiations with Israel.
He charged that such an approval posed as a green light for the Israeli occupation forces to escalate aggression against the Palestinian people and for the occupation authority to go ahead in plans to Judaize occupied Jerusalem and expand the settlement drive.
Resheq told Quds Press on Monday that Hamas rejected the committee's decision, which he described as "illegitimate". He added that the committee had bowed to American dictates, describing the step as a natural result of American financial and political support for Mahmoud Abbas, the committee's chairman and former PA chief, and his entourage.
Abbas and his entourage are trying to picture the decision as an Arab one, the Hamas leader said, adding that there is no legitimacy to the decision nor to the current executive committee.
He held Abbas responsible for the "disasters" befalling the Palestinian people, land, and cause as a result of resuming direct talks.
Resheq furthermore opined that resuming the negotiations process constituted a lifejacket for Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu and his fanatic government and would contribute to improving the image of Israel before the world public opinion.
The Hamas leader asked all factions represented in the PLO's executive committee that reject the decision to couple words with deeds and withdraw from the committee and move alongside other factions to arrange the Palestinian political scene on new basis that would protect the Palestinian people and its national cause.
In a similar tone, Jamil Mizher, central committee member of the popular front for the liberation of Palestine, said that the Fatah-controlled authority's return to negotiations with Israel was a kind of "political suicide".
The talks would give Israel ample time to Judaize Jerusalem and implement its settlement schemes in the occupied Palestinian lands, he elaborated.
Mizher described the process as "futile" as Israel never recognized the Palestinian people's right nor the international resolutions in this regard.
The PFLP official said that at a time Israel was isolated in the international arena the resumption of talks came to serve as a lifeboat for it that would end its isolation.
