Turkey establishes its own investigation committee

[ 12/08/2010 - 11:07 AM ]

ANKARA, (PIC)-- Turkey announced the formation of its own investigation committee to probe the Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla that killed nine Turkish nationals and wounded dozens others late last May.

The Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the national committee for investigation and research, which was formed in premier Recep Erdogan's office, was assigned to table a report on its findings to a UN team of experts on the circumstances of the Israeli attack and the way peace activists were treated on board the fleet during that attack.

It said that officials in the ministries of foreign affairs, interior, and justice would take part in the committee's work.

Ankara has asked Tel Aviv to apologize for its attack against the fleet that was carrying relief aid to Gaza, compensate the victims, and end the Gaza siege.
