16/09/2010 The Lebanese daily Al-Binaa quoted “a Christian opposition parliamentary source” as saying that the false witness in former PM Rafiq Hariri’s assassination in 2005, Mohamed Zuheir Siddiq, was seeking asylum in France.
In the report titled: “Siddiq’s asylum in the hands of a Lebanese Forces attorney,” the source said that “for this purpose, Siddiq assigned a French attorney from Lebanese origins.”
He added that “the attorney was before 2005 a member of a disbanded political party and that he informed Siddiq that a French intelligence officer was personally working with the intelligence apparatus in Paris (DST) to back Siddiq’s request.”
In 1994, the Lebanese government disbanded the Lebanese Forces party and its leader Samir Geagea was convicted of several crimes including the assassination of former Prime Minister Rashid Karameh in 1987. Geagea received a pardon right after Hariri’s assassination and was released from jail, but he was never acquitted.
The source told Al-Binaa, however, that “these efforts have so far failed to achieve their goals because France’s secret police has yet to verify Siddiq’s allegation that he was target of an assassination attempt.”
According to the newspaper, the source said that “the attorney advised Siddiq to delay his arrival to Paris to avoid interrogation which could be entailed by certain measures that would limit the (DST) influence in the face of the diplomatic and judicial authorities in Paris.”
“The source revealed that Siddiq had requested from his attorney to visit a Syrian officer in the Syrian embassy in Paris to inquire about the Syrian command’s position regarding Siddiq’s past stances and acts. However, the lawyer turned down the request to avoid exposure in the media on the one hand, and to make sure Siddiq does not trespass specific instruction he earlier received from the side that backs him, otherwise he [Siddiq] will be deprived of the financial aid and the personal protection he had been receiving upon his release from prison in the United Arab Emirates,” Al-Binaa said.

"...Siddiq, a former (false) witness in the inquiry into the assassination of Rafik Hariri, said Ghazi Kanaan -- long-time head of Syria's security apparatus in Lebanon -- handed him documents that prove Hizbullah's involvement in Hariri's Murder.
Siddiq said Kanaan "handed me documents written in his own hand (ahaaa!) that prove Hizbullah's involvement in Premier Rafik Hariri's assassination."
"After the disclosure of their content 'in time' Hizbullah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and all his allies in Lebanon will not be able to raise their heads," Siddiq said in an interview published Wednesday by the Kuwaiti newspaper Assyiassa...."
