Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association (Addameer) is a Palestinian non-governmental human rights civil institution focusing on political and civil rights issues in occupied Palestinian territory, especially those of prisoners. Established in Jerusalem in 1992, Addameer offers support to Palestinian prisoners and detainees, advocates for the rights of political prisoners, works to end torture and arbitrary detention and to guarantee fair trials through monitoring, legal procedures and advocacy campaigns. Visit http://addameer.info/?page_id=8 for more information.
Ala Jaradat has been actively campaigning against political repression, arbitrary detention, the use of isolation and torture for nearly 15 years. As part of his work on civil and political rights, Ala has also been a strong advocate for the rights of Palestinian refugees. Ala first joined Addameer in 1996 and has since then been involved with the organization as a volunteer, member of the General Assembly and staff member. Over the course of these years, Ala gained extensive knowledge of the Israeli military court system and international legal standards.
Barbara Jackman is one of Canada's foremost immigration and refugee lawyers. Barbara has been a sessional lecturer at several Ontario law schools and continuing education programs. Barbara has been active in a number of professional and human rights organizations, and has been honoured numerous times for her work in defending the human rights of non-citizens. During her career, Barbara has litigated in a number of the leading Charter of Rights cases concerning immigration and refugee matters before the Supreme Court of Canada. In recent years, she has been heavily involved in proceedings relating national security matters, including security certificates and the Arar and Iacobucci Commissions of Inquiry.
