Resheq: Hamas wants to establish higher security committee in W. Bank and Gaza

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Member of Hamas's political bureau Ezzat Al-Resheq stated that his Movement is willing to establish a higher security committee to monitor the security policies pursued in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, but this step must be followed by the rebuilding of the Palestinian security apparatuses.

In an interview with Reuters news agency on Friday, Resheq said the coming meeting between Hamas and Fatah in Damascus will address the security file and the formation of this security committee will be on his Movement's agenda.

The Hamas official also emphasized that the success of this meeting depends on the presence of an independent Palestinian national will away from the Zio-American conditions.

He expressed hope that this meeting would help bridge the gap between Hamas and Fatah, but he said that the reconciliation issue needs another effort to reach agreement on a unified political and national position towards the peace talks with the Israeli occupation state, which his Movement strongly opposes.

For his part, senior Hamas official Salah Al-Bardawil told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that the security cooperation with Israel and the systematic dismissal of civil servants in the West Bank constitute a serious obstacle to the success of the national dialog between his Movement and Fatah.

"There is no choice except the reconciliation in order to strengthen the [Palestinian] authority in the face of the occupation; we will do our utmost to drag Fatah out of the circle of its security cooperation with the occupation into the national circle," Bardawil stated.

"Fatah should not remain submissive to the American veto and it has to be attentive to the serious situation which the Palestinian cause reached," he added.

Asked about the options Hamas would have in case Fatah did not respect the reconciliation agreement, the Hamas official said that if Fatah faction circumvented the agreement, then his Movement would also be exempted from performing its obligations.
