Freedom Flotilla 2 to set sail to Gaza spring 2011

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Freedom Flotilla Alliance, concluding a meeting in Rome on Monday, announced Freedom Flotilla 2 will set sail spring 2011 in a new effort to bust Israel's illegal five-year siege on the Gaza Strip, despite the lethal attack that befell its predecessor flotilla which headed out for the same mission late last May.

The alliance said during a press conference hosted by chief Italian journalist Enzo Iacopino, who recently was pressured by his country's Zionist lobby to call off the event, that Freedom Flotilla 2 will include more than 20 countries, most of them from Europe.

Germano Monte, one of the flotilla's Italian coordinators, stressed the need for Italy's assistance in securing the safety of activists on board the fleet and preventing the recurrence of what happened to the first mission on May 31.

“The government must exert pressure on Israel now to protect the international supporters participating in Freedom Flotilla 2.”

Dozens of organizations and hundreds of Italian citizens have signed a petition to participate on the aid mission, among them a small boat named Stefano Chiarini.

Alliance spokesman and European campaign to break the Gaza siege member Mohammed Hanoun said the Freedom Flotilla coalition will invite media to the ports shortly before the flotilla moves on its way to monitor the ships' cargo to make clear that the fleet is on a humanitarian task.
