Aoun: Hariri Won’t Return, Lebanon Won’t Be Divided

20/01/2011 The head of Change and Reform bloc General Michel Aoun told a news conference in Rabiyeh on Thursday that caretaker Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri cannot return to power, stressing that this position is not about insulting the Sunnis.

“Why the international community wants to bring back to power a man who is accused in leading the false witnesses in the UN investigation, and there are tens of millions he embezzled with his political project,” Aoun wondered while meeting with U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Michael Williams who remained silent and went away hoping to get out of the crisis.

Aoun said that Hariri shouldn’t return to power not because we are mad at him or from Sunnis, they have the most efficient men adding that such a person “can’t be imposed on us.”

“I will not accept any solution less than an investigation or trial of the violations that took place and who accepts less than that is involved,” Aoun said adding that “we need a clean cabinet that respects moral laws and legal texts, we need to be independent in our homeland,” Aoun said.

Turning to Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal Aoun said: “Who has an army that can impose division let him send it,” stressing that “Lebanon is greater than being swallowed and smaller than being divided whether Israel and the US like it or not.”

In a surprising move, Saud al-Faisal said Wednesday his country has abandoned mediation efforts in Lebanon, describing the situation as dangerous.
