Second attempt to blast pipeline carrying Egyptian gas to Israel

[ 28/03/2011 - 10:19 AM ]

CAIRO, (PIC)-- An Egyptian paper said that a second, though failed, attempt was made at dawn Sunday to blast the pipeline carrying Egyptian gas to Israel and Jordan in northern Sinai.

Al-Badil newspaper quoted unidentified sources as saying that ten armed men threatened guards and put an explosive device under the pipeline, but it failed to detonate.

The armed men then fled the scene in two small trucks, it added.

The pipeline south of El-Arish in northern Sinai was damaged in a blast last February 5 that also started fire.

Hebrew daily Yediot Ahronot claimed that the pipeline resumed pumping gas to Israel, but Egyptian security sources denied the report saying that the pipeline was not repaired yet.
