CAIRO, (PIC)-- Khaled Mishaal, the political bureau chairman of Hamas, has warned that the continued detentions and summonses in the West Bank ran contrary to the spirit of reconciliation.
Mishaal was speaking at a meeting in Cairo on Saturday with representatives of Egyptian and Arab press in the Egyptian capital.
He said that some were not happy with the reconciliation, adding that the continued sweep of arrests in the West Bank was not acceptable. The Hamas leader said that he was looking forward to visit Gaza at the opportune time but that it was still premature to fix a date for the visit.
He said in response to questions that all in Fatah, Hamas, and other factions were keen on maintaining reconciliation. He added that Cairo was forming a joint Egyptian-Arab team to oversee the reconciliation process.
Mishaal championed a new Arab axis that would support resistance and steadfastness and at the same time adopt positive and logical moderation.
Asked on the possibility of Israeli assassinations of resistance leaders in order to disrupt the reconciliation, Mishaal said that the Palestinians always expect the worst from Israel, which hopes to mix up cards and confuse the Palestinian arena.
