GAZA, (PIC)-- Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haneyya has said that the signing of the national unity deal was the first step on a “long road”, emphasizing the need to preserve the agreement from past experiences.
The premier spoke Saturday at a festival honoring late Hamas leader Mohammed Sham’a at the Islamic University in Gaza.
Haneyya emphasized that as long as Arab support existed, it would be a “disaster” to turn to the White House.
“[The fact that] the Palestinian government has managed to secure 25 million USD a month means that there is a real Arab alternative,” Haneyya said.
The Palestinian premier emphasized the need to respect the will of the people and plurality in the interim government to be formed.
He added that one of the causes of the national split was the Palestinian Authority’s security agencies. “We want national security services that do not cooperate with the Zionist occupier, as this was one of the reasons that spread chaos in the country. We are discussing how to strengthen the reconciliation and are looking for serious institutions.”
Haneyya stressed the need to preserve resistance, adding, “A national strategy to defend the resistance’s weapons must be established.
Naming the foundations on which to build the future government, Haneyya said that “insisting on constants is a basis for the political identity of any government”.
“Any government must be committed to the constants of our people and should remain firm on the constants and objectives while exercising maximum flexibility in execution and mechanisms.”
It is possible for the upcoming government to move on all tracks while studying priorities at each stage, he said, adding that any government can move on all the tracks at one time as had been done by the government in Gaza.
“As long as there are a steadfast people there must be a government that reflects their firmness,” he said.
