RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Prisoner Fouad Al-Shobaki, the financial adviser to late Palestinian president Yasser Arafat, was transferred last Saturday from Ashkelon jail to an Israeli hospital to receive a medical treatment, his daughter Ranya said.
Ranya stated in a press release on Monday that her father, 72, suffers from several health problems and underwent surgery, but his family has not been informed about his health for quite some time now.
She added that she contacted the Red Cross more than once to check on his health, but she always received no information from them about her father, noting that all prisoners including her father in Ashkelon jails have been prevented from seeing their families for about two months.
An Israeli military court in August 2009 sentenced Shobaki to 20 years in prison on allegation of smuggling weapons.
In a separate incident, Palestinian lawmaker Mohamed Al-Natsha, administratively detained in Ashkelon jail, was taken on Sunday to Soroka hospital to receive surgery in the head from an injury after he slipped accidentally, prisoners reported.
Ashkelon administration told its prisoners that the health status of Natsha is stable and there is no danger to his life after he underwent the surgery.
Natsha was kidnapped by the Israeli occupation forces about seven months ago and administratively jailed for six months, but an Israeli court a month ago extended his detention.
